Today's daily photo is my hipstamatic image for today as well. While working on a modeling job in the Mt. Tamalpais area I had a brief break to make this image of Stinson Beach below. Lots of images to choose from today, and I will post others.
Photo for today is yet another wonderfully colorful Los Angeles sunset. I made similar photos with other applications on my iPhone, but the hipstamatic image to me was the worthy selection for photo of the day.
During class today I knew there was a bad accident on a local freeway. So with the constant sound of the news helicopter I went outside to get as good a photo as I could conidering the lense of the camera had a limited telephoto length. The cool thing was the aperture was maxed out and therefore I was able to freeze the rotors to some extent.
While attending Macworld I also had the pleasure and privilege to co-lead a session with my very good friend Diane. This iamge was taken with one of the cameras we used to showcase the power and funcationality of wireless SD Cards such as the Eye-Fi card. Our session went very well and of course anytime I can do anything regarding photography is always going to be good!!
Getting picked up at the airport is always a welcomed thing. However, using a piece of paper with your name is so 20th century. In this case my friend used his Google Chrome Notebook to not only save a tree, but really stand out amongst the other drivers.
Today's daily photo is not simply of this tasty plate of sashimi. More importantly it is a photo of food that students learned to create and serve in one of the culinary arts academy classes at school. The teacher called on a close friend to visit the class and teach the students how to prepare sashimi and sushi. The lesson included elements of healthy eating. 100% of the students agreed that schools should be serving more healthy food like this!!!
In keeping with the whole Superman theme I wanted to showcase this teacher here. He happens to be a friend of mine, but I want to point out the bag in the foreground. He is bringing home with him, essays his students wrote. In an effort to ensure they understand and learn how to communicate via written language this teacher is going to grade that work this weekend. So in this case "Superman" will be in his Fortresss of Solitude grading the work of his students.
Today's daily photo is due to the forced screening of "Waiting for Superman" at my school. Seems some of the parents are on a political agenda mission to showcase the film that includes a Q&A afterwards with one of the producers. Of course the producer is friends with one of the parents behind this. Rather than having a full blown discussion about the film ahead of time and calling into question many of its' false claims, there was none. Instead the film is being shown on campus with administrative consent (go figure that one) and the teachers are left to defend the very core of what they do everyday. I hate the title since Superman is a fictional character from DC Comics and the real reasons many of our public schools are in the condition they are is due in NO part to the teachers. There are "supermen and superwomen" on every campus across this country. It just seems that nobody wants to recognize the triumphs and accomplishments, they would rather emphasize and exaggerate the trials and tribulations. And I ask the following: How is it possible to wait for Superman at your local school when more often than not Lex Luthor is working
Today's daily photo is the result of a tragic event that occurred on Friday. The photo is of a memorial set up of a guy that was killed by the LA Police Department. The story can be found here http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2011/01/14/state/n091508S96.DTL&tsp=1
Walking along the Santa Monica Beach cliffs I noticed the pier and a bunch of sailboats off in the distance. Since I have seen this image many times before I decided to capture it with the intent of doing a black and white conversion.
Today's venture to the Paddock Riding Club gave me the opportunity to photograph a good friend of mine while she was training her horse. The photo of the day is of this beautiful animal. His name is Gabriel. Did you know there was an extensive Equestrian community on Los Angeles?
In following today's @dailyshoot assignment to "Make a unique photo of something mundane and ordinary" I decided to photograph a famous street sign, but use a technique in which I zoom the lense while the shutter is open. It took several adjustments of the shutter speed to get this, but there it is. Zoom!!
As our storm moved to the East the remaining clouds that hung around provided for a dramatic sky. This yielded view such as the one here, and in order to do the sky proper justice I made this an HDR image.
Today's daily photo is courtesy of the @dailyshoot assignment #ds413 "Make a photo of an interesting texture" So this photo is of a delicious side dish I made this evening. Toasted bulgur wheat with chopped parsley, pine nuts, and grilled mushrooms. I also doused it with a brilliant EV Olive Oil. Yum!!!
Since I will not be focused on doing a Project 365 this year I will try to make sure a significant percentage of my images are either HDR, Exposure Fusion, or have some other creative post processing applied to them.
For the final photo of my Project 365 I wanted to capture an image of the final sunset of 2010. The photo is both symbolic as well as an appropriate theme for the end of the year and my 2010 Project. Not sure if I will go for a third year in a row, but I will continue to make photo throughout the year and post them.
